Post-Purchase Questions & Behaviour

What is post-purchase dissonance?

It's the nagging doubt or discomfort a customer feels after buying something - what everyday language calls buyer's remorse - and it shows up most after expensive, complex, or hard-to-reverse purchases.

Post-purchase dissonance is that nagging doubt or discomfort people feel after buying something - most common when the purchase was expensive, complex, unfamiliar, or hard to undo. The customer starts second-guessing: would another option have been better, is this actually going to deliver what was promised. Most people would just call it buyer's remorse.

Businesses can ease it by setting accurate expectations up front, making onboarding clear, confirming the customer made a good decision, keeping support accessible, and being upfront about what happens next. Good setup instructions, some reassurance, transparent policies, and letting people see value early all help - and they tend to cut down on cancellations, returns, and bad reviews.
