The Post-Purchase Framework
A post-purchase intelligence framework for understanding what happens after delivery
Most brands know exactly what was bought, shipped, and delivered. Far fewer have real visibility into what happens next - whether the product worked as expected, what customers struggled with, what they loved, and whether the experience changed their intention to buy again. This framework is a free, structured way to close that gap.

In short: the Post-Purchase Framework is an operating model, not a survey template. It connects the journey from delivery through experience, intent, and behaviour to a concrete action - via four operating pillars (Capture, Understand, Connect, Act) - so that post-purchase feedback becomes a decision-making system rather than an isolated feedback activity. Below is the post-purchase blind spot it addresses, the model itself, why product-level analysis matters, the operating loop that turns a signal into a measured outcome, and what the full PDF covers.

The problem
The post-purchase blind spot
What brands can already see
- •What customers bought
- •When they bought it
- •Where the order is
- •When it was delivered
- •Whether they purchased again
What most brands can't see
- •What happened after delivery
- •Whether the product worked as expected
- •What customers struggled with
- •What they loved
- •Whether the experience changed their intention to buy again
That gap - between what a brand knows it shipped and what it knows about the experience that followed - is the post-purchase blind spot. It sits in nearly every ecommerce data stack, and it's the problem this framework is built to close.
The model
One journey, five stages
The framework treats what happens after an order ships as a single connected journey, not a series of disconnected touchpoints. Each stage feeds the next.
A delivery starts the clock. The experience that follows shapes a customer's intent to buy again. Intent predicts behaviour - reorder, churn, or advocacy. And behaviour is only useful to a brand once it turns into action: a decision, an owner, and a measurable change. The framework exists to connect those five stages, rather than treating post-purchase feedback as an isolated survey activity that stops at "collected."
The operating pillars
Four pillars connect the journey
01 · Capture
Capture structured post-purchase experience signals at the right moment - close enough to delivery that the customer's answer is still accurate.
Read the deep dive →02 · Understand
Turn those signals into product- and experience-level intelligence, not just a satisfaction score.
Read the deep dive →03 · Connect
Connect experience signals with customer behaviour, retention, and repeat purchase - so a signal has a business consequence attached to it.
Read the deep dive →04 · Act
Turn signals into decisions, ownership, changes, and measurable outcomes - closing the loop back to the business.

Why product-level intelligence matters
A store-wide satisfaction score can look healthy while one SKU has a significant experience problem. Averaged across an entire catalogue, a struggling product is easily absorbed into a number that still reads as "fine."
Store-level average
4.3 / 5
Blends every product's feedback into one number. Reads as healthy.
One SKU, isolated
2.1 / 5
The same period, one product - a real problem the average hid completely.
The framework's position is that the unit of analysis should be the product or SKU, not simply the customer or the store. That's what makes post-purchase intelligence actionable for a product or quality team - a brand-wide average tells you how things are going; a SKU-level view tells you exactly what to fix.
The operating loop
From signal to action
The framework is an operating mechanism, not simply a feedback collection methodology. Here's the loop applied to a real example.
Signal
18% of customers report difficulty using a product.
Insight
Customers reporting difficulty show materially lower reorder intent.
Decision
Test improved onboarding instructions.
Owner
Product / CX.
Action
Update packaging and onboarding.
Measure
Issue rate + reorder behaviour.

Put the framework into practice
The Post-Purchase Framework defines the operating model. TrueSignal puts it into practice - helping brands capture post-purchase experience signals, understand product-level issues, connect experience with retention, and turn signals into action.
